Workshop On Sino-US International Environmental Issues

Background：

With the development of globalization, environmental issues now are the concern of the whole world. Since 1990's, different topics about environmental problems have been heatedly debated throughout the world, while with the integration of the world, the issues on environmental friendly have shown the strong influence over the national politics, the economy, environmental interests and the security of the nation. The environmental problems demand the attention.

At international or regional level, the deterioration of the global environment caused the alert of the international society. We have to make progress on a series of vital issues that need rapid positive actions. Currently, the conflicts among countries on regional environmental issues are increased dramatically. The environmental issue has beyond the traditional concept. Many factors have been integrated into it, such as politics, diplomats, economy, trade, sovereignty and national security; it is no longer a problem of natural environment. The international society has realized that it was the time to promote the legislation on global environmental issues.

At national level, to comply with the development of environmental protection both internationally and domestically, every country strengthens the study and the research on international environmental problems. Advanced management theories and experiences have been massively introduced and applied. Meanwhile, the scientists in different countries also take actions on the invention of the new technology and the new production to face the challenge of the global environmental problems.

The workshop to be held on December 2nd 2004 is going to help Chinese society understand the concept of the environmental friendly, the strategy and the precaution in depth and promote the value all over the country. The workshop will focus on the issues regarding the global and regional environmental problems faced by both China and the United States. Experts from both countries will exchange ideas by communication in environment related fields, including policy and development strategy, and provide suggestions on how to solve the environmental problems in China concerned by the world.
