The first training workshop
of year 2005 at the Vision Training Center of CANGO was successfully held
in Beijing. The topic of this training is Leadership in NGOs and 21 trainees
from Helongjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, Guangxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Shandong,
Gansu, Tibet, Yunnan, and Beijing participated in this workshop. Different
from the other Leadership training, this workshop is mainly focused on the
internal communication and analysis of NGOs, which is called Leadership Light.
By the end of this training, the total number of trainees at VTC has come
to 446 persons.
In the afternoon of Jan 14th,
the mid-term Project Review Meeting of the Capacity Building Project of Grassroots
NGOs in China was held in Beijing. This project is financially supported by
the Christian Church Development Service (EED) in Germany. The project aims
to build up the capacity of Chinese grassroots NGOs through training and education
so that they can better serve in the areas like poverty alleviation, community
development, environmental protection, gender issue and etc. thus help in
the social development of China.
By Jan. 14th 2005, there are totally 446 trainees participating in 17 training
workshops related to five topics as “NGO basics”, “Project
Design and Management”, “Leadership in NGOs”, “Fundraising
and Resource Mobilization” and “Strategic Planning in NGOs”.
This Review Meeting is to look back the two of implementation in project management,
collecting more suggestions and recommendation from experts and feedback from
trainees, so that we can make better project plan for the future. About 20
participants from government agencies, non-government organizations, research
institute, and media attended the meeting.
Ms. Zheng Hong attended
the Launching Ceremony of Poverty and Social Development Resource Center (SDRC),
Beijing Academy of Social Sciences (BASS) at Beijng New Century Hotel. Ms.
Han Jialing, Director of SDRC, said at the launching ceremony that the SDRC
will pay much solicitudes for social development and social equity in future
planning, designing and implementing of development projects and programs,
as well as making recommendations for the process of policy-making. Mr. Zhu
Mingde, Director of BASS, and Mr. Adrian Davis, Head of DFID China, also made
speeches at the ceremony. About 60 participants from NGOs, research institutes
and media participated in the event.
The International Forum
on Environmental Public Policy& Sustainable Development Education in Colleges
and Universities was held at the Sino-Japan Friendship Center for Environment
Protection. At the Opening Ceremony, Mr.Pan Yue, Vice Minister of State Environment
Protection Administration (SEPA), Mr.Chen Guangju, President Assistant of
Beijing Normal University, Mr.Lei Chaozi, Deputy Director of the Dept. of
Science and Technology of Ministry of Education and Mr.Lu Xuedu, Division
Chief of Resource and Environment under the Rural and Social Development of
Ministry of Science and Technology delivered speeches. The presentations at
the Forum focused on the five themes Environmental Public Policy Making, Environmental
Public Policy Making and Stakeholders, Innovation of Environmental Education
in Colleges and Universities, Business Environment Learning Leadership Project
and Environmental Education Network Building. Mr. Haoming Huang was invited
to preside over the panel on Innovation of Environmental Education in Colleges
and Universities.The Forum was organized jointly by the Center for Environmental
Education and Communications (CEEC)of the State Environmental Protection Administration(SEPA)
and Beijing Normal University. More than sixty participants from governmental
agencies, research institutes, universities and NGOs attended the event. Mr.
Andreas Fulda, Ms. Li Jing and Mr. Fan Yang also joined the Forum.
Mr.Andreas Fulda and Ms.Li
Jing attended the book launch of "200 International NGOs in China"
which is organized by the China Development Brief. at the East Lake Villa
of Beijing. More than 100 participants from the both Chinese and international
NGOs, as well as media, joined the event. The collection of the book, which
introduced 211 international NGOs which are supporting development project
in different parts of China and in different areas,is support by the British
Embassy and the Ford Foundation. Mr. Andraw Watson, Representative of Ford
Foundation Beijing Office, Representative from the British Council, Prof.
Wang Ming, Director of the NGO Research Center of Tsinghua University, and
Mr. Shang Yusheng, President of NPO Network, delivered speeches at the Launch
Ceremony.
Li
Jing participated in the Leadership for Sustainability Forum which is organized
by AIESEC, the international platform for young people to discover and develop
their potential to have a positive impact on society. This forum is specially
focused on developing socially responsible leaders. Mr. Adam Lane from AIESEC
presided the Forum and delivered a survey result which was conducted among AIESEC
member students on topic of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Mr. Zhang
Zhongliang from Sinomonitor made a speech at the forum, focusing on the relation
of economy growth and sustainability in China. More than 100 participants, mainly
business students in universities and some are from NGOs and companies, had
a warm discussion about CSR and sustainability during the open discussion.
On
Jan 28th morning, representatives from Environmental Defense (EDF), Chinese
Research Academy of Environmental Science (CRAES) and CANGO had a meeting at
the Friendship Hotel about an environmental protection project that may be carried
out from 2005 to 2008. The meeting was presided by Dr. Zhang Jianyu. Ms. Li
Jing, Project Manger of CANGO, made a presentation on the “26 Degree Campaign”
which was carried out in 2004 summer. Dr. Wang Wei, Director of Air quality
& Aerosol Division, CRAES introduced the results of a survey on “Air
Quality & Human Health in China”. Mr. Huang Haoming, Executive Director
of CANGO, introduced the design of the upcoming environmental protection program.
Prof. Lin Hong from CRAES and Dr. Daniel J. Dudek, Chief Economist of EDF gave
some professional suggestions for improving project design and had an open discussion
with all participants. Ms. Cheng Yaqin and Mr. Lin Mao from CANGO, Ms. Yuan
Yi, Ms. Zhang Lingge and Ms. Wang Hao from EDF, and Dr. Chen Jianhua from CRAES
also participated in the meeting.

Mr.
Haoming Huang had a discussion with Dr. Mitsuhiro Tanimura, researcher of United
Nations University in Tokyo. Both sides had a smooth exchange on the research
situation, development trend and future cooperation of Sino-Japan NGOs. Prof.
Wang Ming, advisor of CANGO also participated in the discussion.
Mr.
Haoming Huang met with Prof. Michio Ito, Managing Director and former Secretary
General of Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation. Both sides had a
thoroughly discussion on the exchange and cooperation of Sino-Japan NGOs.
Mr.
Haoming Huang had a meeting with Dr. Huang Juhui, Manager of Government Affairs/Business
Development, Cargill Investments (China) Ltd, Ms. Ai Anita, Government Affairs
& Biotechnology Assistant, and Mr. Li Lu, Vice Director of International
Exchange & cooperation Department, China International Public relations
Association. They carried on extensive exchange and discussion on hot issues
such as Chinese NGO development, cooperation with corporation and corporation
citizen.
A
delegation of the Pepperdine University's MSOD team paid a visit to CANGO. Mr.
Haoming Huang and Ms. Dorit Lehrack met with them and introduced the history,
function and work of CANGO. At this meeting, a future cooperation between the
Pepperdine study groups and CANGO was discussed, both in the form of assistance
to Pepperdine's annual China program and as direct cooperation in corporate
social projects. Ms. Zheng Hong and Mr. Lin Mao also participated in the meeting.
Mr. Zhao Daxing and Ms. Zheng
Hong had a meeting with Mr. TSUKASA SEKIYA, section supervisor of DENSO Corporation;
Mr. TAKUMI KAMIYA, executive of DENSO Corporation; and Ms. Zhang Jie, secretary
of DENSO (CHINA) INVESTMENT CO., LTD. Also as Secretary General of Japanese
Specified Nonprofit Corporation Wheelchairs and Friendship Center of Asia, Mr.
TSUKASA SEKIYA indicated that DENSO hopes to cooperate with CANGO by developing
the projects of wheelchair production support in China. On the one hand, they
can offer technical training to disability; on the other hand, it’s good
chance for disability to get employment. Both sides aim to create a more friendly
and better social environment for those with disabilities.

Ms.
Li Jing, Ms. Zheng Hong and Ms. Dorit Lehrack participated in the meeting of
Business as a Leader of Positive Change in Society, which was hosted by the
Master of Science in Organization Development Program (MSOD) of Pepperdine University
of US and Renmin University of Beijing. More than 70 representatives from government,
business, research institutions and NGOs participated in the workshop that was
designed as an interactive future search meeting aimed to develop a vision how
stakeholders of the society work together for a better future. Good examples
of business actions in social change and corporate social responsibility have
been introduced to the attendees of the meeting.
Mr.
Huang Haoming, Ms. Dorit Lehrack and Ms. Li Jing had a meeting with a delegation
from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which aims to learn more about the development
of NGOs in China. Mr. Huang made a presentation about CANGO’s vision and
mission, working areas and development, etc. Ms. Dorit Lehrack also introduced
to the delegation about the NGO development in China with analysis to the current
challenges and opportunities. Mr. Huang, Ms. Lehrack and Ms. Li also answered
questions regarding the corporate social responsibility, NGO development, and
role and function of Chinese NGOs in social and economic progress.
Mr.
Huang Haoming, Ms. Li Jing and Ms. Zheng Hong attended the “2nd Roundtable
on Social Standards” meeting conducted by Gesellschaft für Technische
Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH and the Foreign Trade Association of Germany (AVE).
Mr. Pedro Ortun, Director of the European Commission in Brussels and of Basic
& Design Industries, Tourism and IDABC gave a speech on the Commission’s
outlook on CSR and social standards. Roundtable aims to initiate a multi-stakeholder
dialogue on corporate social responsibility, social issues and code of conduct,
offering a platform for discussions and exchange of points of views as well
as to provide concrete measures as how to address social standards in China.
Almost 30 representatives from government, international organizations, NGOs
and Chinese suppliers attended this meeting.
Mr. Haoming Huang
presided the “Round Table Meeting on Environmental Legal Issues and
NGO Development” which was held in Friendship Hotel Beijing. Mr. James
T.B. Tripp, General Counsel of EDF, and Mr. Daniel J. Dudek, Chief Economist
of EDF, were invited to have an open discussion with experts and representatives
of NGOs from China. The discussion focus on the environmental laws operation
in US and how the NGO can prompt the environmental protection in cooperation
with government and corporations. Mr. Bie Tao, Prof. Chen Jinluo, Mr. Liu
Jingyang, Mr. Mao Da, Mr. Fu Jing, Mr. Deng Haifeng, Mr. Li Shudong participated
in the meeting.
Ms. Zheng Hong
attended the meeting organized by China NPO Network. In the meeting, Mr. Barnet
F. Baron who came from The Asia Foundation delievered a presentation on “Public
Perceptions of the Non-profit Sector in the US: Losing Ground?”. After
the presentation, some participants indicated that for a sound NPOs developmentl,
not only relying on government policy, but also the self-governance and self-capacity
building. About 50 participants from government, research institutions, foundations,
and other NGOs attended at this meeting.
Ms. Stefanie
Elbern and Mr. Detlef Hoffmann from the German Church Development Agency (EED)
visited CANGO. Mr. Wang Yue, Chairman of CANGO held a welcome dinner for two
guests. He reviewed the cooperation history between EED and CANGO and expressed
his appreciation for EED’s long-term support to CANGO. Dr. Hoffmann
also was satisfied with the successful cooperation with CANGO. In the afternoon,
Mr. Haoming Huang, Ms. Dorit Lehrack, Mr. Zhao Daxing, Mr. Andreas Fulda,
Mr. Li Jing and Mr. Lin Mao have a meeting with two officials on the project
implementation, evaluation and new cooperation.
Mr. Daxing Zhao
presided round table meeting on “Renewable Energy and Environmental
NGOs” which was held in Beijing. Mr. Norbert Gorissen, head of International
and EU-Affairs of Renewable Energies, German Federal Ministry for the Environment,
Nature Conservation and Ms. Ellen von Zitzewitz, Project Official had an open
discussion with representatives from local environmental NGOs. The two sides
discussed on how NGOs can participated in the renewable energy issues and
exchanged information for the preparations of High-level Meeting on Renewable
Energy for Sustainable Development.
Mr. Lin Mao participated
the Seminar on Social Capacity Development for Environmental Management which
was held in Sino-Japan Friendship Center for Environment and Economy. The
seminar was co-organized by Policy Research Center for Environment Economic
and Hiroshima University. Prof. MATSUOKA Shunji from Hiroshima University
and Dr. Xia Guang, Director of Policy Research Center of SEPA co-chaired the
seminar. During the meeting, Japanese representatives give brief presentation
on SCEM Project and Chinese representatives make keynote speech on status
of environmental protection and policy of China.
Mr. Haoming Huang
met with Mr. Lee Jong Moo and Ms. Seo Eun Hyung from Korea Sharing Movement.
The two sides exchanged ideas on the upcoming 4th International NGO Conference
on Humanitarian Assistance to DPRK which will be held in Beijing.
Mr. Fan Yang
joined the Human Rights Course in Copenhagen, Denmark, which was organized
by the Danish Institute for Human Rights.The training was focused on the topics
of international and regional legal framework for human rights,as well as
some visitings to the international and national agencies and institutions
for human rights in Copenhagen.25 participants working in human rights and
law from 14 countries in Asia, Africa and America attended the event.
Mr.Zhao Daxing
accompanied guests from JIFH for an investigation and research on bamboo resource,
bamboo weaver’s skills level and the women participation in bamboo weaving
activities to seek the potential advanced bamboo training possibilities.
Together with
Ms.Puisi Chan and Mw.Sara C.Y.Feng from The Salvation Army, Mr.Zhao Daxing
paid a field trip to Jing County and Wuyi County. The group had a face-to-face
talking with farmers from the local communities to learn the basic information
on drinking water, farming, planting and animal raising etc.
Mr. Zhao Daxing
participated in the 14th Asean People’s Assembly----Towards a People-Centered
Development in the Asean Community. Nearly 300 participants from Philippines,
Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia and other Asean member countries
and regions joined the Assembly, exchanging views on peace, reconciliation,
development and other related issues.
Mr.Huang Haoming
and Mr.Zhao Daxing joined a Leadership Salon, which was presented by Mr.Jerry
Wunder. More than 30 participants discussed different cultures and different
ways of thinking on a successful, holistic, integrated and complete life,
as well as the identity of a successful leader.
CANGO and Bright
China Foundation co-organized an event named “social entrepreneur dialogue-opportunities
and challenges” at Bright Chang An Building. With the support from Chairman
and CEO of Bright China Holding Ltd., we are pleased to have the Chairman
and CEO of SIWA Group at this event. Dr. Daniel J. Deduk, chief economist
of Environmental Defense, Ms. Dorit Lehrack,Prof. Jeffery Chuan Chu, and Prof.
Zhu Chuanyi gave a presentation respectively. More than 50 representatives
from NGOs, institutions and media joined this dialogue.
Mr. Huang Haoming
was invited to attend The 4th International NGO Conference on Humanitarian
Assistance to the DPRK was held in Beijing. There were approximately 100 participants
from NGOs, UN agencies, and other organizations representing Asia, Europe,
and North America. The theme of conference focused on “Regional Peace
and Development Cooperation”. Ms. Zheng Hong, coordinator of the department
of public relation, and Ms. Pu Xiaojun, volunteer of CANGO, joined this conference.
Mr.
Huang Haoming and Ms. Zheng Hong participated in the Launch Ceremony of Beijing
Olympic Volunteer Program and Branch: Voluntary Services & Construction
of Harmonious Society International Forum of Voluntary Services & People’s
Olympic. The aim of international forum is to collect ideas from different level
of society to share and exchange their experiences to develop the voluntary
services for 2008 Olympics. It also aims to research and discuss the new trend
and experiences on international voluntary services. Furthermore, it is hoped
to promote the development of voluntary services, and to reveal the role of
voluntary services on construction of harmonious society. Almost 100 experts
and scholars from home and abroad join this event.
two
delegations from the 17th Annual International Philanthropy Fellows in Philanthropy
& Social Justice International Conference visited CANGO. The first delegation
is composed of more than 20 national NGO representatives from different parts
of China. The second is composed of about 30 representatives from foreign NGOs
and research institute, which is led by Dr. Lester M. Salamon, Director of Center
for Civil Society Studies at John Hopkins University in the United States. Ms.
Zheng Hong, Mr. Fan Yang and Ms. Li Jing made presentations regarding general
information about CANGO, Projects at CANGO, and the Vision Training Center for
capacity building of grassroot NGOs, respectively. Mr. Huang Haoming and Ms.
Dorit Lehrack also answered the questions raised by the guests.
Mr.
Huang Haoming and Ms. Zheng Hong participated in the Chinese NGO Forum for the
58th DPI / NGO Annual Conference of the United Nations. The topic of forum is
"to promote peace to implement the MDGs”. The best presenters at
this forum will be selected to attend "the 58th DPI/NGO Annual Conference
of the United Nations" held in New York in this September. Sr. Joan Kirby,
Chair of the DPI/NGO Executive Committee was invited to deliver a key speech
at this forum
Huang
Haoming signed the cooperation agreement with Mr. Endo Kazuya, Counselor of
Economic Section Embassy at the Japanese Embassy, which is going to support
Lizhi Training Center about agricultural recovering site for mentally disabled
people. Vice Director General of CICETE Mr. Dong Hong and Mr. Endo Kazuya delivered
speech on the ceremony. First Secretary of Japanese Embassy,Takahisa Nishikawa,
Second Secretary of Japanese Embassy, Makoto Kamiya, The Grant Assistance for
Grassroots Human Security Project Project Assistants Motoko Fujita and Hitomi
Rikihisa, and Deputy Executive Director of CANGO Ms. Li Jie and Project Manager
of CANGO Ms. Cheng Yaqin attended this Ceremony.
Beijing
Hongdandan Education and Culture Exchange Center organized a seminar at Beijing
People’s radio, named “Eye Disabled People's Participation in Broadcast
Program Editing ”. More than 20 experts and scholars from home and broad
thought that disabled people should have equal right on participation in social
activities.
Huang
Haoming attended the second meeting of the advisory committee for the “civil
society indicator” (CSI) which was hosted by NGO Research Center, Tsinghua
University. It aims that discussion about indicator for evaluation and framework
of CSI in order to establish the indicator framework of CSI. Experts, scholars
and NGOsrepresentatives, including Mr. Wang Ming, Ms. Jia Xijin, Mr. Wu Yuzhang,
Mr. Wang Xinzheng, Mr. Li Fan, Ms. Meng Weina, Ms. Guo Xiaohui, Mr. Li Tao and
Ms. Miao Xia, attended the meeting.
Huang
Haoming was invited to attend the preparatory experts seminar for 21 Century
Forum on "Sustainable Development—China and the World", which
will be held in September 2005 and organized by CPPCC. Vice-chairman of CPPCC,
Mr. Wang Zhongyu made some suggestions and comments on how to organize this
forum.
Li
Jie participated in the “Training on Executive Directors of Nationally
Social Organization ” which was organized by Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Experts and scholars were invited to introduce social organizations' profile,
registration and management, related legal regulations, tax management etc.
Executive directors from 71 social organizations joined this training.
Huang Haoming was invited to attend
the international workshop on “The role of Civil Society and Private Sector
on Promotion, Transferring, and Application of New Technology” organized
by UNIDO and Russian Federation League of Industrialist and Entrepreneurs. UNIDO
Director-General Carlos Magariños attended the opening ceremony and delivered
a key speech. More than 200 representatives from 38 countries and regions participated
in the workshop. Mr. Huang Haoming also made a speech on how Chinese NGOs can
involve in new technology innovation and transferring.
Fan
Yang accompanied Mr. Li Yichao, project official of The Salvation Army Hong
Kong and Macao Command visiting water project in Wuyi county, Hebei province.
With the cooperation with NGO Cooperation Association of Wuyi County, The Salvation
Army is going to develop water project in 2 poor villages to supply adequate
drinking water for local people, improve the health condition, and help farmers
generate incomes by improving the outcomes of crop.
Hainan
Pharmaceutical Industry Association, one of the member organizations of CANGO,
donated free medicine to the Women’s Federation of Guangxi Zhuang Ethnic
Autonomous Region, which is valued 46,800 Yuan. These medicine will be distributed
to those who suffered from flood disaster in June to prevent and cure diseases.
Mr.
Fan Yang accompanied Mrs. Ruth Schimanowski, head of China Liaison Office of
Misereor, to Xishuangbanna Yunnan province. The aim of this field trip was to
discuss the proposed project "Supporting Upland Minorities in Xishuangbanna:
Through Community Resource Management and Livelihood Skill Development",
which was summitted to Misereor jointly by CANGO and the Xishuangbanna Assication
of Indigenous Knowledge and Livelihood Improvement for Upland Minorities(XA).
Misereor, XA, CANGO and CBIK (The Center for Biodiversity and Indigenous Knowledge,
which is technically supporting organization to the project) had a fruitful
discussion about the proposed project.
the symposium of " the declaration
of self-discipline " & the new book named Business and Civil Society
release was held in CANGO. More than 20 representatives form charity organizations
was invited to discuss that charity organizations how to improve self-discipline,
operate regularly, and provide high efficient services. The outcome of discussion
is regarded, as the suggestion for final version “the declaration of self-discipline”
will be jointly signed by all charity organizations on November 2005. The new
book “Business & Civil Society” collected works and papers presented
in conference held in 2003. Chief editors that chairman of the board of directors
of CANGO Wang Yue and Executive Director of CANGO Huang Haoming signed signatures
for representatives.
Li
Jing and Liu Tongqian participated in the 2005 Northeast Asian Youth Peace Forum
which was organized by the Korea Sharing Movement. About 30 participants, including
NGO staff, scholars and university students, from the United States, Russia,
Japan, South Korea and China attended this forum. Li Jing made a presentation
on August 17th about NGO development in China and how it can share with the
socioeconomic rehabilitation in North Korea. The other Chinese NGOs participated
in this forum including the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and
Disarmament, China Association for Economy Promotion in Ethnic Regions, and
Shaanxi Women’s Federation.
LI
Jing attended the " AVE-GTZ 3rd Roundtable on Social Standards and Coporate
Social Responsibily (CSR) which was organized by GTZ Beijing Office. The topic
of this roundtable is "Social Responsibility Management -- New Approaches
to Social Standards and CSR in China". About 40 Participants from UNIDO,
EU, related Chinese government departments, companies, NGOs, and research institutes
participated in the roundtable discussion. After this roundtable, GTZ will start
a survey among those who care the development of CSR or social standands in
order to collect information for a overview documentatioon of CSR in China which
will be presented at the the 4th roundtable in November this year.
On
September 8th, Mr. Fan Yang attended the Launch Ceremony of UNDP Human Development
Report 2005 in Beijing. The theme of report is "International Cooperation
at a Crossroads: Aid, Trade and Security in an Unequal World". Mr. Khalid
Malik, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative delivered the
opening remarks. Prof. Wang Huijong, Vice President of Academic Committee, Development
Research Centre of State Council gave the overview. More than 100 participants
from government agencies, bilateral and multilateral organizations, domestic
and international NGOs, research institute and the media joined the ceremony.
The
“Global Call to Action Against Poverty–China Millennium Development
Goal Forum” was held in Beijing. The meeting was co-organized by Global
Call to Action Against Poverty–China (GCAP-China) and China Association
for NGO Cooperation (CANGO). More than 200 representatives participate this
forum. After open ceremony, 4 sub-forums with different topics were held, they
are: Education, Environmental Protection, AIDS Protection and Social Gender,
participants join the sub-forum and have discussion according to their interest.
A party was held in the evening. In the morning of Sep. 10, after sub-forum
discussion, participants assembled in the main meeting room and representatives
from 4 sub-forums gave summary reports. Finally all participants discussed and
pass the Beijing Declaration of 2005 GCAP-China MDG Forum principally.
Mr.
Fan Yang attended the “Huiling meets the Guqin - philanthropy concert
for the mentally disabled”in Jin Fan Music Hall?Ms. Wu Na, the famous
guqin (silk string zither) player played a selection of both modern and traditional
music. Her trainee from Huiling demonstrated her newly learned guqin skills,
and another trainee performed an interpretive dance. Mr. Miao Yuan donated his
newly produced guqin and auctioned at the concert. Huiling, a NGO that working
for the mentally disabled, organized this activity successfully. More than 300
audience joined this event.
Dorit
Lehrack and Li Jing participated in the buffet lunch hosted by the British Embassy
which is an opportunity for the Princess Anne to meet with Chinese NGOs. Princess
Anne is the president of Save the Children UK. During the meeting, she learned
about what Chinese NGOs are doing.

by Larfarge, LI Jing attended the Openning Ceremony of the Shepherd Children’s
Village of Philip Hayden Foundation. The primary work of the Philip Hayden Foundation
is the establishment of children’s villages where children are in special
need or at-risk. The new Shepherd Children’s Village is established with
the support many NGOs and companies, such as the China Charity Federation and
Larfarge. Mr. Clark Randt, the American Ambassador in China, made a speech at
the ceremony.

International Leader of The Salvation Army General John Lasson and The Commissioner
Freda Larsson paid a visit to CANGO. Huang Haoming introduced the development
of Chinese NGOs and CANGO’s project fields to the guests. Both sides discussed
the way of broadening the alliance and cooperation with The Salvation Army in
the future. The Officer Commanding of HK & Macau Command Colonel Alfred
Tsang Hing Man and Assistant to General Secretary Major On Dieu Quang accompanied
with. CANGO’s staff Zhao Daxing, Fan Yang and Zheng Hong joined this meeting.

Daxing an LI Jing participated in the buffet at the German embassy which is
held to celebrate the German National Day of Reunification. Hundrens of people
from government, embassies, companies, NGOs, and other participatedin the event.

Jing participated in the meeting for communication of Chinese NGOs and the Earth
Council Alliance. Mr. Maurice Strong, former Deputy SG of the United Nations
and Co-founder of ECA, made a speech at the meeting. Mr. Tommy Short also made
a speech introduced about ECA and the aim of the meeting. More than 20 representatives
from Chinese environmental NGOs participated in the meeting.
The
International NGO Workshop on Renewable Energy was held on November 6, 2005
in Beijing just before BIREC 2005. 87 representatives from 52 non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) in 12 countries participated in the workshop. A Joint Declaration,
which is going to be submitted to BIREC, has been agreed by all participants
from civil society on the issue of renewable energy development in both industrialized
and developing countries.
Lin Mao participated
the 2nd Third Country Training Program on Building Capacities of Asian NGOs
in Poverty Eradication through Community Action – Sustainable Agriculture
Development (TCTP-SA) which was funded by Japan International Cooperation
Agency (JICA). The training was organized by Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian
Reform and Rural Development (ANGOC), 24 participants from China, Philippine,
Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Thailand and Nepal
participated the training. The Training ensures a balance between theory and
application, lectures and field work. With participatory approach, the participants
engaged in discussions, creative presentations, evaluation and conduct of
selected training activities. All participants had the opportunity to observe
first hand and understood how SA is being participated. Based on this training,
participants wish to create an organization named Asia Alliance on Sustainable
Agriculture to promote the sustainable agriculture development in Asia. Participants
from China include Mr. Zhang Jingtao, Ms. Xu Hengmei from Science and Technology
Extension Center of All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Co-operatives
and Mr. Xie Dongming from Office of the Mountain-River-Lake Development Committee
of Jiangxi Province.
CANGO and JICA
co-organized the Sino-Japan NGO Forum which aimed to improve communication
and cooperation of Japanese and Chinese NGOs on development issues such as
rural and community development, environment protection and education and
etc. About 80 representatives from both governments, NGOs and other institutions
attended this forum.
CANGO and School
of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University co-organized a launching
ceremony for the book “NPOs in Germany”. On Jun. 2004, a delegation
from China was invited by HBF to learn more about German NGO law. Going back
to China after a ten days program packed with appointments and meeting, each
delegation member has worked on a specific aspect of the German NGO law and
its implication practice. As a result all experts contributed articles to
this book. It is the first of its kind published in China and it gives a comprehensive
overview for learning and inspiration. Almost 30 representatives from NGOs,
institutes and media attended this event.
CANGO
and the China Foundation For Student Employment Planning Committee co-organized
a seminar concentrating on university graduates resources development. The aim
of seminar was to learn about the difficulties of graduate’s employment
and the demand and supply of the human resources market; listen to the opinion
and suggestion from employers, discuss cooperation patterns that fosters a good
environment in which the university students can get employed easily.
on behalf of
the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) and with the support of the German
Center for International Migration and Development (CIM) the China Association
for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) organized a Sino-German NGO Dialogue Forum on
the issue of “Development of Grassroot Democracy through Public Participation”.
In the process of harmonious society building, public participation is being
encouraged, grassroot democracy developed, community building strengthened.
Participants of the NGO Dialogue Forum included representatives of the German
Embassy, members of International foundations and German non-governmental
organizations, officials from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, leaders from
the provincial and municipal government, scholars from Qinghua University
and the China Academy for Social Sciences as well as Chinese NGO representatives
working on public participation and community building issues
