Ms. Li Jie and Ms. Wang Xiangyi participated in the 3rd Training Program Organized by China NGO Network for International Exchanges and China Care and Compassion Society in China Science and Technology Museum on May 18, 2007.
The training program was lead by Ms. Shen Beili, Deputy Executive Director of China NGO Network for International Exchanges. Mr. Jin Guihua, Deputy President of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs and previous ambassador to Malaysia, Brunei and Thailand, gave a presentation named “Art and tactic of NGO people involved in international multilateral affairs and cooperation”. Professor Wang Changke from climate change office of China Meteorological Administration gave a presentation on the “impacts of and responses to global climate change”. In the afternoon, participants visited science and technology projects and watched a related movie in the museum

On May 23, the EU-China Biodiversity Programme and The World Conservation Union (IUCN) China Office co-sponsored a workshop named “Conservation Communications Messages and the Countdown to 2010”, Wang Xiangyi was invited to attend the workshop. About 30 participants from more than ten local and international NGOs came together to discuss communications work, moving towards the 2010 biodiversity target, and potential opportunities for future collaboration.

On 1st June 2007, China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) associated with Environmental Defense (EDF) held a press conference on “National Action of Green Commuting” in China Century Altar.
On that International Children’s Day, Mr. Huang Haoming, Executive Director of CANGO, gave an introductory speech at this press conference. He called for people to give a clean globe and green lifestyle to children as the best gift.
On the same date last year, Jun.1st, 2006, “Green Commuting” project was launched in Beijing, meanwhile it has helped saving energy, improving energy efficiency, reducing pollution, benefiting health. There were 40 organizations from enterprises at home and abroad, non-governmental organizations, chambers and others making this commitment. This year, the campaign has l argely been endorsed by over 20 cities across China after its debut last year in Beijing.

In the evening of 14th June 2007, CANGO’s Chairman of the Board Mr. Wang Yue, Executive Director Mr. Huang Haoming, Deputy Executive Director Mr. Zhao Daxing had dinner with Environmental Defence’s Executive Vice President Mr. David Yarnold, Vice President for Development Ms. Paula Hayes, Doctor Daniel J.Dudek, Mr. Ben Zipperer and China Project Manager Mr. Zhang Jianyu in Bian Yi Fang—a famous Peking Duck restaurant. CANGO presented 2008 Olympic keepsakes to the guests. Both sides—CANGO and EDF appreciated the cooperation and are confident on the future work.

The Workshop on China Civil Society Climate Change and Energy organized by HBF was held in WOFO Hotel on June 13-15, 2007. About 30 participants from more than ten different NGOs joined the workshop including CANGO, Friends of Nature, Global Village, Conservation International, Fuping Development Institute, Energy Foundation, Civil Society Watch, etc. Wang Xiangyi was invited to join it.During the three-day workshop, there were eight experts delivering presentations on different topics. These experts came from different organizations, including China Meteorological Administration, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Easy Carbon. The presentations contained an IPCC working group report assessment, an introduction to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Kyoto Protocol, the negotiations on climate change, energy saving, renewable energy development and policy, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), etc.All participants gained a lot of knowledge on climate change and energy. On 20th June 2007, CANGO’s Project Assistant Zhang Tianhao attended the press conference of the website--www.greenlaw.org.cn in Jianguo Hotel. This is a joint effort of The NATURAL RESOURCES DEFENSE COUNCIL (NRDC) and The China Environmental Culture Promotion Association (CECPA). This the first comprehensive plain-language web resource focused on environmental public participation in China.NRDC and CECPA aim to enhance the public participation in the field of laws on environmental protection. The website will eventually contain a broad range of tools to help members of the public, NGOs and others take advantage of the many new rights to environmental public participation becoming available in China. These tools will among other things, include, local user guides, case studies on Chinese and international experience, and an extensive searchable database of Chinese laws, regulations and policy documents concerning environmental public participation. At the same time, this website is the first data base for professional research in China

Wang Xiangyi participated in a World Bank Workshop on Participatory Urban Governance on June 21-22, 2007. The topic of the workshop was “ Holding a roundtable dialogue, building harmonious society”. About 100 participants joined this workshop including leaders and experts from the World Bank, the State Environmental Protection Administration, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China, the Ministry of Construction of China, and representatives from pilot districts in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Chongqing, Hebei, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia, as well as other related organizations and media.The expert from World Bank gave an introduction to the roundtable dialogue and its significance. Leaders and experts from government organizations introduced public participation conditions from the national law and policy formulation and decision-making level. Representatives from pilot districts introduced the pilot roundtable activities they carried out, and summarized the success and challenge of their activities. The success of roundtable dialogue is shown in a broad stakeholders participation, topics are closely related to public interests, the participants are highly enthusiastic and motivated, contradictions and problems were resolved effectively through face-to-face communication. On July 9th, Mr.Huang Haoming & Mr.Zhao Daxing met with guests from Temasek Foundation, Mr.Gerald Yeo, Mr.Benedict Cheong and Mr.Stanley Lee. The counterparts discussed common interested fields and try to work together for the civil society development within China.
On July 24, Mr.Zhao Daxing met with visitors Ms.Joyce Warner and Lawrence Daks from IREX. Both sides show interests on education, media training and civil society development.
CANGO plans to cooperate with Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT) in Hong Kong to conduct a project on renewable energy community development. Project activities include to assist farmers to build marsh gas pools, to set up organic pork production and sales, and commercial crops planting and sales.
On August 4-6, 2007, Wang Xiangyi from CANGO accompanied with the project manager from GIFT went to Jingxian to conduct a survey. They visited Heibei Jinlong Group, looked around the pig yard and feed factory led by the director of the company and the leader of Jingxian Farming Bureau. Following the visit project cooperation has been further discussed.
In addition, they also visited three different villages in Jingxian. They got some basic information about these villages through talking with head of the villages and visiting farmers. 8 4-6
Zhang Tianhao participated in the Community Based Disaster Preparedness(CBDP) Workshop, organized by Caritas Asia and Caritas India, in Kolkata, India on Oct. 21-25. About 50 participants from Germany, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Phillipines, Myanmaar, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, East Timor, Thailand, Singapore and Nepal joined this workshop.
The delegates from each country shared their information on Disaster Preparedness. On behalf of CANGO, Zhang Tianhao gave an introduction of CANGO and the situation in China. After the inputs and the discussion on CBDP concept, participants visited the CBDP working areas of West Bengal, India. In the end, all the participants expressed their expectations for possible future CBDP action. For CANGO, we gained more experience on Disaster Relief, especially Community Based Disaster Management in this workshop and we plan to launch more activities in this field.
On July 7, 2007 Ms. Wang Xiangyi attended “GCAP Millennium Development Goals Forum Environmental Forum” organized by Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) and China Population Welfare Foundation. About 50 participants from the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, Beijing University and more than 20 NGOs joined this forum.
