HIV/AIDS is the one of the most serious problems threatening public health. In situations where there is a lack of effective clinical treatment, medication and vaccines, prevention of HIV/AIDS through education is one effective way for raising public awareness. With support from Caritas Australia, CANGO conducted a HIV education plan for Chongqing Municipality in cooperation with the Chongqing Health Education Institute (CHEI).

In 2004, a series of activities such as trainings, baseline surveys, and education workshops were carried out in Chongqing. With the project implementation, 13 educators were trained and enabled them with basic prevention knowledge and education skills; 2500 person/times were provided consultation; and, about 3000 students received information on HIV/AIDS prevention.

With the assistance of Christian Blind Mission (CBM), patients suffering from cataracts have been cured through surgical operation. This project has extended practical training for eye doctors, in addition to some essential surgical equipment provided by CBM. By now, the local eye doctors have learned the technique of artificial lens operation and a certain impact has also been made in the neighboring counties and cities.
