Through supporting 2269 poor women in silkworm breeding, technical training on new technology and skills, the project will significantly increase the annual income of the participants by at least 1080 RMB per capita. The project will contribute to the protection of the ecological environment from soil erosion by planting mulberry trees in the barren hills and gully. By skills developing and income generating, the poor women, especially the ethnic minorities will empower themselves in their social and economic status both in their family and community.
The project will legalize the Silkworm Breeding and Marketing Cooperative (SBMC) in Jinqiao township. SBMC will assist participants by technical assistance on planting high-quality mulberry trees, purchasing nice silkworm eggs, and providing training on tree planting and silkworm breeding skills. SBMC will also engage on product collection, transportation and silkworm sale, disease prevention and treatment as well as expanding marketing channels in order to self-help sustainable development of the community.
